Soil Biology

Managing the soil, or rootzone, is the key to high quality turfgrass surfaces. Turf managers carry out many maintenance operations, such as mowing, fertilising, topdressing, irrigation, scarifying and other organic matter control practices. The focus is on the grass but, if they were to manage the soil biology, good surfaces will come about as a result of increased soil microbes reducing fertiliser applications and the reliance on pesticides.

Soil Biology products have been developed to ensure the continuous breakdown of organic matter that is produced by the grass plant as it grows. This creates a constant release of nutrients and humic substances into the soil environment, and a diverse population of soil microbes is maintained. Nutrients are made available to the plant for uptake, pathogens are controlled and thatch management is much easier to accomplish.
